 Life    by: Jim Grant
Life is like a game of baseball,
You play it every day.
It isn't just the breaks you get,
But the kind of game you play.

So stop and look your whole team over,
And you'll find dedication there.
You're bound to be a winner,
With men who really care.

Your pitcher's name is courage,
You need him in the game.
For faith and trust your keystone men,
The grounders they will tame.

Your center fielder is very fast,
Though small and hard to see.
So watch him, son, when he gets,
The ball he's opportunity.

In left field there's ambition,
Never let him shirk.
For in right field there's a husky man,
I'm told his name is work.

At first base there's religion,
He's stood the test of time.
At third base there's brotherhood,
The stalwart of the nine.

Your catcher's name is humor,
He's important to the scheme.
For with honor warming in the bull pen,
The game is always clean.

With love on the bench,
You've perfection no less.
With a winning team,
And joy and happiness.

Your other team is strong, son,
Greed, hatred, envy and defeat.
Are for strong infielders,
You'll have to buck to make your game complete.

Deceitfulness and a man called waste,
Are always playing hard.
Selfishness and jealousy,
None can you disregard.

Carelessness and falsehood,
Are the big boys in the pen.
You'll have to swing hard, son,
When you come up to them.

There's one more man you'll have to watch,
He's always very near.
He's the pitcher on that team,
And I'm told his name is fear.

This game will not be easy,
There'll be trouble, there'll be strife.
To make the winning runs, my boy,
For this game is played on the field of life.

So stand behind your team, my boy,
There'll be many who'll applaud.
Just remember that you're the player,
And the umpire here is God.

I chose this poem for my last poetry response because of the game we have just lost tonight. Our coach told us that baseball is life, you do the best you can and cannot control the outcome. This poem talks about how you must trust in your team and how the game is never easy. I believe this is very true and I believe that baseball teaches so many life lessons and how to work together to achieve something, or to fall short of your goals even though you gave your best effort. This poem really hits me because it talks about how it isn't easy, nothing in life is easy, you have to work for what you want and give your best effort. Without the work, effort, and support of your team you can achieve nothing.

Heroes  by: Harper Gibson

There are many heroes,
A hero,
Hero is such a strong word,
A hero is a rare thing,
In the realm of fairy tales many heroes have walked the earth,
True heroes have courage.
Courage dear reader is not what many think it to be,
Courage is to fight on,
Courage is to never give in,
Courage is to stand by your cause,
Courage is to fight on even if you are already beaten,
A hero will never surrender,
A hero will stand by and protect his cause,
A hero will show mercy,
But a hero will kill.
A hero will lie,
A hero will not give in,
A hero will see all that he does to the end.
A hero,
Heroes are the most rare of humans,
But are the most hated,
Untill after they have done their deed.
They are heroes.

I like this poem alot because it shows what the true meaning of a hero is. The poet talks about how heroes are seen as a hated person even though they are people who have the most courage. These heroes will do anything to make sure that their quest is done and they have accomplished what they have set out to do. The poem says how they are the most hated people because they most of the time go against what is accepted to try and prove what they think is right. These people will do whatever they can to try and accomplish their goals, and a hero is not a hero if he does not actually accomplish their goal.

Everybody Dreams     by: Twilight Whispers

Everybody dreams.
Children dream,
Adults dream,
Old people dream.

I dream, too.

I dream about the friends with whom I'll grow old,
I dream about the person whose hands I'll hold,
I dream about being young and in love,
I dream about loved ones, looking down from above.

I dream of the places I'll one day see,
I dream of being wild and free,
I dream of my house, high on the rocks,
I dream of the sand underneath my socks.

I dream of the people I'd love to greet,
I dream of the things I'll say when we meet,
I dream of hearing their voices sing,
I dream of being happy with everything.

I dream of travelling with a map in my hand,
I dream of never coming back to this land,
I dream of finding myself - in sense
I dream of jumping far off this fence.

I dream of any things that one day I'll know,
I dream of the freedom: a dream I won't let go,
I dream of my future and marvel at my pride
As my heart is flying and singing inside.

This poem talks about how everyone should dream because it gives you hope for your future. Dreams are what drive people forward in life to do the things they really want to do. Dreams are great for you because they are the plans you want to make for your life, but even though they do not always come true they keep your future bright and keep you occupied to try and realize your dreams. I believe this poem has a great meaning but dreaming is not the only thing, if you are always dreaming then you never accomplish so you should have dream, but always try to make your dreams a reality.

"Waiting On The World To Change" by : John Mayer

Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could

Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it

So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change

Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

That's why we're waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's not that we don't care,
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

And we're still waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

This song talks about how people my age can not really do anything to change how the world is, which I believe is true as of right now. The song says how one day our generation will rule the population, and that is when we will be able to try to change the world to how we believe it should be. Trying to do something now would just be pointless because the older generation does not take us seriously and they believe their ideas are better than ours are. This song may make it seem like when you are younger you can not make any difference in the world, but it just tells how it is almost impossible when you are as young as we are to try and get anyone to believe in your ideas, so we just wait until it is our time.

Diamonds are forever
Diamonds are a girls best friend
is what some people say,
but what about the biggest diamond
that comes into play.
It's a mans best friend
not one that rests on his hand,
but stays in its place
it's a nice piece of land.
Instead of it sparkling
and shining in light,
it's layers of the earths soil
outlined in white.
Though other diamonds
can only be seen,
you can be part of this one
thats surrounded by green.
You can step in it,play in it
and shine in it as well,
this diamond of beauty
leaves us stories to tell.
Makes history even
and has in the past,
brings joy to hearts
that forever will last.
This diamond always visited
and covered by the press,
It's easier to get to
because the cost is much less.
So you ask,wheres this diamond
my friend after all,
mine is not far
from a giant green wall.

I decided to pick a poem about baseball because it is one of the things that I do know alot about. Baseball is a sport that has taught me alot growing up. It has taught me about discipline, teamwork, and hard work, which are three things that have really been instilled into what makes me who I am today. I like how in this poem the baseball diamond is compared to an actual diamond because it shows a different kind of love, not a want of a rare rock, but of a love of the game of baseball and how it brings people together. I enjoyed this poem and I think it shows how a piece of land can be more than just that.
